Conversing

The pack mulled around, the excitement the news of the bear had grown stale. Desire's eyesight was still foggy and blurry and she stayed by the dens most of the time.
Several wolves had dragged in an elk and now the pack gathered and ate, gnawing at the bones happily and the younger ones tussling in the grass playing keep-away.
Life was good so far. Sparr and Ananza had taken the bear cubs away, outside the pack to find another home for them. Anlage felt this would be a good mission for the young female, Ananza as she needed to learn some responsibility. The new wolves, Raven and Kuno were adjusting nicely to the pack. Anlage lifted his muzzle to the sky and scented the wind. Was it his imagination or did he catch a brief scent of human....

Raven perked her ears as the pack did their usual bouts.She wrinkled her nose as Kuno scratched his fur,trying to rid of fleas.Raven wandered what life in the pack would be like and how did the other wolves act.For now she would just be the new wolf like Kuno.

Raven lowered her head and closed her eyes to sleep.She awoke itching herself,only one wolf could have done this,Kuno. She growled in exasperation as Kuno looked with humorous eyes at her.Raven scrabbled to her paws and started to stroll towards Kuno with an expressionless face.Kuno twitched his tail and now wasn't laughing.As Raven stopped in front of him,before Kuno could utter an excuse Raven snapped,"Go take your fleas with you somewhere else!"Kuno bowed his head down,stiffened his tail,and padded away.He lied down in an isolated spot away from the other wolves and suppressed a dismayed sigh.

"Sounds like you're having a good day." Ardal commented to the black female as he walked by. His muzzle was drawn into a prodding smile, eyes flickering from her to the brown furred wolf. His tired honey eyes still had their usual gleam to them, yet he lacked his usual vigor and infectious gregarious attitude. "You'd be surprised how much you sound like my kin, Maja, but she's normally surrounded by an icy silence."

Raven nodded in greeting as Ardal went by.Kuno only gave a short glance at Ardal before he was wallowing in his own thoughts again.Kuno grumbled in disgust as Raven was adjusting herself finely.He lashed his tail in anger and looked away from Raven.

A rough hair pelted wolf ran in at full speed into camp, nearly crashing. Bleeding in some places, his eyes were coated with pain and fear. Screaming unintelligible words, he finally said, in a hoarse voice, m-m-my sister...she is here.

----------
Ananza was scared, and didn't want to make the first move. Looking at Sparr, she waited for him to make a move.

Raven pointed up her ears in surprise as an unusual stranger surged into camp.She scrambled to her paws and froze in fear at the sight of the unfamiliar wolf.Raven bared her teeth and whipped her tail in uncertainty.

Kiwicola said...

Looking at the other black wolf, Seedstorm did the same, only with more power. Eyes still crazed, at the top of his lungs he screamed, " WHERE IS MY SISTER AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HER!?!?!?!?!?"

Unknown said...

Raven said nothing and growled as the other wolf screeched at her.She flexed claws,ready to fight,if the other wolf attacked her.

Raiden's black pelt had been hidden near the back of the group, but as soon as the stranger raised his shrill voice, she was transformed into a black blur, white teeth bared. She halted quickly between the wolf and the rest of the pack, her amber eyes glaring like those of a snake ready to strike. "Step back!" She spat, hoping to put some distance between the wolf and the pack. Her head was low and her tail was frozen, poised to move at a moments notice. "Explain exactly why your here, now." She added in a harsh tone, hoping to take up some time and get some information before Anlage hopefully stepped in to help.

Kuoza, wounds still bleeding, shoved the black she-wolf slightly as he spoke. Unlike Raiden, his first response would be one of calm diplomacy, as opposed to wild belligerence. "Please, calm down. Who might your sister be? I assure we've harmed no wolf." He added, glancing behind him to see if someone piped up. This wolf appeared to be insane, sick, diseased. A fight would just lead to the spreading of and harm, and after the last fight, it was the last thing they needed.

Anlage stepped out of his den, fully alert and ready for battle. He quickly assessed the scene and stepped forward.
"What is the problem here? We are not coyotes. We don't kill our prisoners and we have none anyway. Who is it you search for?" he addressed the black male with a calm but authoritative demeanor.

Kiwicola said...

Realizing his only chance was to calm down, Seedstorm did just that. Heaving, he began. "My name is Seedstorm, and I believe you have my sister. I heard her scream not to long ago, and I haven't heard that voice since our family got separated by that...that terrible bear. Now, I'd like to see my sis so I'm guessing this is your camp and she'd be here." Eyes pleading all Seedstorm wanted to do was see his beloved sister before likely bleeding to death.

Zoraz said...

Anlage cocked his head to one side.
"You must mean Sriha." he said after a moment. "She attacked a bear not long ago and there was a fight going on. It's dead now. You are siblings? Were you traveling together?"

Maja's ears perked briefly, detecting an abrupt noise from the camp. With a thin rabbit dangling from her mouth, the lithe wolf trotted swiftly. Her eyes scanned the clearing as soon as she breached the camp's outer rim. A few wolves casted surprised or fleeting glances at her perhaps ungainly approach through the bushes, but none seemed particularly interested. Maja quickly placed her kill in a pile before setting her attention to the commotion. There was a black wolf standing stiffly in the clearing, his pelt rough and tangled - although it spoke wonders compared to Kuoza's unkempt fur. Maja let her eyes scrutinize and her nose take in the sights and sounds that would tell a story; all while her ears honed into the conversation.

"...You are siblings? Were you traveling together?"

Siblings? Who was the strange male siblings with? Her nose tingled, tracing a faint - hardly recognizable scent. Strange. He bore a common muzzle structure of many wolves, his beady amber eyes told her nothing either...perhaps he was related to Aralstor or Raiden? Or even the docile Kolo? Then again she couldn't possibly judge on fur and eye color alone...

A tad miffed about not coming to an accurate conclusion, Maja decided to stand and wait patiently in the background, watching the spectacle with observant eyes.

Unknown said...

Raven's fur bristled with anxiety as she observed Anlage speaking to Seedstorm.She saw a some-what recognizable wolf hiding in the background,then it came to her,it was Maja.As quietly as Raven could,she whispered,"Maja,why are you hiding?"

Kiwicola said...

"Yes, I mean Ananza. And I understand why she killed that hear. It sure deserved it. But yes, we are siblings. We were separated when we were pups such a long time ago. But...please, don't tell meet you've exiled her! Please!" Seedstorm's breaths were ragged and his eyes bloodshot and pleading.

Zoraz said...

Anlage raised a paw to slow the flow of words from the desperate young male wolf.
"She has not been exiled. I don't know what you and Ananza have against bears, but our rules are different here. The cubs were left motherless and Ananza and Sparr, another member of Sketchpack, left to try and find a substitute mother for them."

~~~
"Where do you two think you're going?" a cold, threatening voice sounded behind Ananza and Sparr. "Stealing prey as well as even crossing into our domain? We can't have this, can we."
The large wolf held his head high, looking at them with his lip curled in disdain. His jet black fur was long and stringy. He obviously had power in his well-muscled legs and neck, and he was also slender enough to move fast.
Kiwicola said...
Ananza's blood turned cold. Looking back, she stiffened her muscelces, ready for attack. " We have nothing against you. We are on the look out for a another hear to foster these cubs. And we believe one is in your territory." Ananza didn't think lying would help, but if the would attacked the group could defeat him.
------
Seedstorm let out an exasperated sigh. He had looked for his kin for so long, and another dead end. Sighing, he collapsed in a bloody heap. "I'm sorry to have given you so much trouble. Once I get enough energy I can leave, as you wish.
Zoraz said...
"Address me as you should, low-life curr!" the wolf snarled with his head high and tail raised in an obvious display of dominance.
"I am Blade, the Transcendent of my pack. What business do you think you have here?" he said. Two more wolves showed up behind him, flanking him--both had the same look of disdain on their faces as Blade did.
Raven fell asleep when Maja didn't answer.She was buried in the conscience of her dream world.Raven was walking around camp in her dream.No one was there and she had the feeling she was being followed.Every time Raven would look behind her,there was only her own shadow.She sighed and padded out to hunt.As if there was a miracle,a deer appeared out of nowhere and stood lazily not even noticing Raven.She leaped effortlessly and finished of the deer only with the swipe of a claw.Before Raven even could take a bite,her shadow turned into a shroud of dark fog that swirled around her.The fog kept coming closer and closer,tightening the space around Raven.When the fog was so tightened,Raven couldn't breathe.Raven's eyelids flew open from the fear of the nightmare.A dark shadow loomed over and she yelped in horror wondering who was standing in front of her.
Unknown said...
Kuno stood in front of Raven,priding her with his foot.Raven growled,got up,and darted away.Kuno watched her with unexpressionless face.Suddenly it felt like she was being followed again,Raven looked around in dismay and heard speaking wolves.She sniffed the air,her own pack's scent mingled in with an unknown pack's scent.She crouched low in the bushes trying to see what was going on.Raven looked around,it didn't look like Sketch Pack territory anymore.Raven went back to watching the unknown wolves.
Zoraz said...
A scrawny, tough looking wolf slid across the dry leaves with ease, hardly making a sound with all his hard training at hunting and staying "invisible" to the eyes of another. The scent of a pack wolf floated into his sharp senses and he paused, scanning the forest before catching sight of the source of the smell--a black she-wolf. His eyes narrowed and he edged nearer to see what she was up to in his pack's territory. She would need a good lesson to learn not to trespass again.
Raven was regretting what she was doing.She thought,"Oh what the trouble I can get myself in!"She was about to leave but then a mysterious wolf in the shadows lurked in her sight.Raven's body stood paralyzed in fear and confusion.Anxiety flooded over her and she looked for a way out of this mess.
Zoraz said...
The slender male wolf leaped easily forward and stood, barring the way in front of Raven.
"Who are you and what business do you have in Destroyer Territory?" he growled, his long fangs bared and his tail raised. His chest was thrust forward in his display of dominance as he waited for her reply.
Unknown said...
Raven narrowed her eyes and snorted in disgust,"We'll I didn't know I would be in a different territory!"She whipped her tail and bared her teeth in warning.She hoped she wouldn't have to fight this wolf,since on the inside she was overwhelmed with horror but hid it with teeth and claws.No one really knew that she tries to hide her fear and mask it with anger and disgust.Raven's legs started to feel like rubber but she held them in place stiffly.
Zoraz said...
"Address me as you should, cur!" the black wolf shouted, shoving his body forward into Raven to send her off-balance. (That is a common "greeting" from these wolves, lol)
"I am Slayer, a Transcendent of my pack and you have trespassed into my realm! You will pay tribute to my pack by staying with us or you will be killed upon my command. Choose your fate, whelp." his face was a ghastly leer as he barked her options.
Unknown said...
"Fine I'll go to your pack,but as soon as my pack notices I'm gone they'll get revenge!"spat Raven. The other wolf didn't know she was brewing up a plan,as soon as she would get to the other packs camp entrance,she would dash for her life.A mischievous look glinted in her eyes as she hatched her plan.
Ananza raised her head in an admirable bravery, using leadership skills and acting. "Well excuse ME. I didn't know you were an oh-so-important Trrransceentdannnt," Ananza sneered, "Well, I'm trying to save some lives here, and seeing your a Transe-what-was it, I would guess you'd like that." Ananza briefly knew that Sparr wouldn't like her tone, but she decided to let it go. Just then, a gust of wind swept in, fresh with autumn air. And a little something else, something a little familiar. "Raven," Ananaza thought. What was she doing, out in the woods?
---
Seedstorm was hungry, and said, "Um, so sorry, but do you think I could get a bite to eat?" He was also bleeding, and was starting to get restless, waiting there.
Zoraz said...
Blade's eyes flashed and in an instant he was upon Ananza, his jaws clamped down just under her neck as he whipped his head back and forth--instantly opening a wound before he threw her to the side.
"You underestimate me, young wolf." he said silkily, his eyes glinting with malice. "I am not called Transcendent for nothing!"
A very faint noise rang in Raven's ears.The grumbling of a far away wolf alarmed her and she perked her ears up in surprise.Raven looked worriedly at the other wolf behind her.Some how she felt that other wolves from pack were facing the problems she was with an unknown wolf from a hidden pack.It seemed the air tightened around her and the shadow of the other wolf loomed over Raven. "Is my nightmare coming true?" thought Raven.For every second that passed Raven would keep thinking about her nightmare and was dragged almost into her own conscience deeper and deeper.Raven stood paralyzed staring blankly into the trees.Time was running out and she had to escape sooner or later.
Sparr's eyes widnened as he saw Ananza thrown so easily. A wolf with so much power...and an angry one too. Death would come to both of them if he allowed himself to be as hot-headed as Ananza. Instead he stepped forward carefully, bowing his head an lowing his tail in respect. "Transcendent," he said, the word strange on his tongue. "Please forgive my packmate for her rude behavior. She is new to the pack, and has much to learn. I offer my sincerest apologies for trespassing on your territory, and we will leave you and your pack in peace. We meant you no harm." Sparr knew his words were a longshot, that the chances of them getting away with only the injuries they currently bore was slim.
Kiwicola said...
Getting up angrily, Ananza's eyes glinted. She got up, and pretended to stumble across. She collapsed on top of Blade, and starched furiously with her hind paws. She whiffed the air, and smelled Raven. All in one second Ananza thought. Ananza hadn't really been scared before- but now she had a life, and friends. Panting, she was able to get out, "Sparr...do what you need to do!"
(Sorry the post isn't my best, I got to go)
Zoraz said...
Blade roared furiously at Ananza and grasped her again, flinging her onto her back and pinning her with his heavy paws to the ground.
"You simply don't learn, do you, dog?" he sneered. Suddenly his face froze as his eyes caught sight of the bear cubs. There was a dead silence before his deadly calm voice murmured;
"What...are those doing here..."
Unknown said...
Raven seemed hopeless and would run out of courage instantly like the blink of an eye. Suddenly a word snapped up in her ears."Ananza?" she thought. She knew what she had to do,run for her life and try to find Ananza. She willingly lifted her foot to start her escape.
The wolf turned sharply and glared at Raven.
"And where do you think you're going?" he sneered, stepping in her path.
"Those are bear cubs, in case you didn't know." A lone wolf stalked out carefully from the shadows, a cheeky grin decorated his muzzle. Dark brown eyes flashed and narrowed at the vicious stranger. Ardal had taken notice of the blood dripping from wounds and made brief eye contact with Ananza and Sparr.
"I came by because Maja sent me hunting after her, but I kind of wish she was here now," Ardal huffed with exaggerated annoyance,"yet that's beside the point. Who's this yellow-bellied cat?"
Kiokami said...
Sparr was about to blow his top with the way that things were turning out. "Excuse my packmate, she doesn't know when to shut up." He looked at Ananza pointedly, sending his message quite clearly: Stop it, now. "I have no intrest in fighting you, however, she," He gestured to Ananza, "is not using any bit of common sense. She has no self-control, and I ask that you try to look behind what she said and listen to me. I wish to negotiate, not fight you." He spoke quickly, annoyed and frustrated but trying not to show it.
He waited until he had some remnant of attention. "Please, allow me to explain. These bear cubs were left when someone here," He looked at Ananza again, "decided to start a fight with their mother. Now, the cubs are orphaned. We were sent to attempt to find a mother to take care of them. Though, in my opinion, all we are doing is attempting to make them grow large enough to attack our pack, others do not feel this way. We will go search somewhere far away from your territory when we are done here."
Zoraz said...
Blade whipped his head to the side to give a disgusted look at the newcomer.
"I know that," he snarled. "what business have they here!? They are killers as adults!" his composure lost he turned back to Ananza and then again to the lone wolf. "And how dare you cross into my territory?" he shouted, flustered and irritated that nothing seemed to be going his way. As Sparr explained his scowl deepened and when he had finished his voice was low and nearly strained with malice.
"They are predators like ourselves--why should I care if they have no mother? Why should you! Kill them now and be gone. I will overlook this intrusion if you obey me, and allow you return to your own forest realm."
Kiwicola said...
Ananza's eyes glared at Sparr, with no sense of apology. She had taken a leader spot, and protected her life. Nothing to apologize about that! Then she looked at Ardal, her heart leaping now that a friend was here. But those cubs weren't going to get hurt. Ananza's motherly instincts had kicked in quite a while ago, and she wouldn't let go. Struggling to keep calm, she padded up to Blade. "You will now, will NOT hurt. These. Cubs. Do you understand? They've done absolutely nothing to do anything to you, and they won't grow up to be the serial killers everyone thinks they'll be! If you want... Keep my friends and those cubs alone, and take me away. Or fight with me!" Ananza refused to look at her friends, but she did look sorrowfully at the cubs she'd grown on. But Ananza would give them up to a safe mom. Right now, her thoughts for Sparr were low, and she was sure she'd never get to talk to Ardal about what really happened to her... "Before, if you decide to take me away, I'd like to speak to my pack mates. As long as you do not hurt the cubs or these wolves, we can go in peace."
Zoraz (Owner) said...
Blade's eyes narrowed again and his hostility returned in full volume.
"You have no right to ask favors or give propositions! This is my realm and if you want to fight me," he laughed and his lip curled with a smirk. "it will be my pleasure to tear you to pieces." he scowled at the cubs and spat on the ground, raising his hackles once more.
"This is my final warning. Rid this territory of that...that scum and I will release you without further injury." his eyes glanced over Ananza's shoulder wound and then he met each wolf's eyes, a slight flicker of fear entering as he spotted the loner that had so silently entered the territory and appeared beside them with an instant insult. That wolf could be dangerous.
Addressing the other wolf as sharply as she could without any shakiness in her voice, Raven hissed,"Nowhere that you know of or just,what's that word?Ah yes freedom." She could tell that he probably sensed a little wariness in her voice. Raven felt like keeling over in regret what she had just said.
Kuno back at camp pondered the idea that some of his pack-mates were missing. He sniffed the air in wander. Kuno thought,"Where could they be?"
Kiwicola said...
Putting in a sharp intake of breath, Ananza realized what this leader wolf was worried about. He was now facing a fair fight, but a fight wasn't needed. She could use his worry to her advantage, if she could. "With respect, think about this psychologically. If you had grown up with the background of a killer, you'd be a killer. I think it's the same prospect with all animals, and so my leader has given these orphaned bears a second chance. So I'm afraid my offer to kill these innocent bears, is no."
Clumsily Kuno stood up and blinked in exhaustion.He had to decided to find some of the missing wolves from the pack.He tried to ignore the queasiness he was experiencing and padded out of camp. Suddenly Kuno slipped out from under his feet and was laying on the ground and right there he saw mud.He croaked and exasperated sigh and shook his head.
